8 Days Wings Over Southern Tanzania

Itinerary
Day01
Kigelia Ruaha, Ruaha National Park
On arrival at the Julius Nyerere International Airport, you will be met by our representative and transferred to the nearby domestic airport for your scheduled flight to Ruaha National Park. On landing in Ruaha, you will be welcomed by your driver guide and enjoy a game drive en-route to Kigelia Ruaha Camp arriving in time for lunch.
After lunch is served in the shade of the Sausage Trees, enjoy an afternoon siesta, as you wait for the afternoon heat to subside to head out on your first game drive in Ruaha National park. Return to camp and enjoy a piping hot shower before sitting down to dinner.
Following its recent expansion, Ruaha is currently East Africa’s biggest national park and the second-largest on the African continent. It is also Tanzania’s most sizeable elephant haven and home to a profusion of bird species, including kingfishers, plovers, egrets, hornbills and sunbirds. Crocodiles and hippos thrive in the Great Ruaha River, which flows along the sanctuary’s eastern border and in the dry season between July and November, animals flock to the last remaining water sources, presenting an exceptional wildlife spectacle. There are a number of accommodation options available but some close for the wet season in March and April.
Overnight: Kigelia Ruaha
Kigelia Ruaha is where you go when your soul seeks the humbling solitude of giant baobabs, the exhilaration of encountering Africa's big cats or great herds of elephant; where the focus is on experiencing nature and not the gold taps, and where you can feel at home while simultaneously enjoying the care of a dedicated team.
The camp itself has just six airy tents set beneath the boughs of the Sausage Tree (Kigelia Africana) after which it was named. It has a charm and simplicity which means that it highlights the surrounding landscape rather than detracts from it. Falling asleep under canvas to the calls of leopard, and waking in the dappled light of the sun as it peers through the bush is simply magic.

Kigelia Ruaha, Ruaha National Park
Over the next few days, you will be able to decide exactly how you would like to spend your days. You may prefer to enjoy a leisurely start each morning heading out into the park after a good breakfast; however we suggest that you rise early for a chance to watch the sun rise over the plains and enhance your game viewing experience. You may prefer to return to camp for breakfast or why not enjoying it in the heart of the bush surrounded by nothing but wilderness.
Enjoy a leisurely game drive back to camp and spend the rest of the morning relaxing before lunch is served. Afternoon you can go for a game drive or alternatively, you may prefer to enjoy a sundowner in a beautiful spot within the park before slowly heading back to camp for another gourmet dinner followed by an evening sharing stories around a blazing camp fire.

Day04
Roho Ya Selous, Nyerere National Park
This day you will be transferred to the airstrip for a flight to Africa’s largest game reserve. Upon landing at the Selous Game Reserve airstrip, you will be met by the friendly face of your driver guide from the camp and begin game spotting as you make your way to Roho ya Selous Camp. As the day begins to cool, you will head out into the reserve by late afternoon for your first game drive in this truly untamed wilderness.
Head back to the lodge in the evening where pre dinner drinks have been poured.
Formerly the northern part of Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania's Nyerere National Park is Africa’s largest National Park. Stretching over an impressive 30,893 square kilometres, the park is home to some of the world’s largest concentrations of wildlife, and the incredible diversity and sheer volume of animals draw visitors from around the globe. Travellers can look forward to spotting a wide collection of common and rare species including the famous Big Five, some rare species of antelopes like Roan Antelope, and large concentrations of elephant and hippos. Don’t miss the opportunity to take a boating safari on the exquisite Rufiji River, spot the endangered African wild dog, and enjoy a guided walking safari with a highly knowledgeable guide.
Overnight: Roho Ya Selous
Roho ya Selous sits in the very heart of Nyerere National Park (formerly The Selous), a stone’s throw from a palm-fringed tributary of Tanzania's Rufiji River.
